Union striker Sheraldo Becker had recently been loud and critical about his joker role. He made a sporting appearance in the home win over Wolfsburg – much to the delight of coach Urs Fischer.
Twelve days ago, Sheraldo Becker made it clear that he was not happy with his current status in the 1. FC Union Berlin squad. “I am not a good joker, I am a good player. I know what I can do for the team,” the Dutch winger had said, referring to his role as a substitute, “so it’s frustrating to sit on the bench.”
Becker, who was a factor in the Eisernen’s play last season, said he “didn’t come here to sit on the bench. A player with my qualities has to play in my eyes. “
Becker backs up his words with action
Since his clear words, nothing has really changed in Becker’s status. Against VfL Wolfsburg, the speedy winger had to take his place on the bench before replacing Max Kruse from the 72nd minute onwards. Becker’s performance after his substitution may well have increased his chances of playing from the start again more often soon. In the 83rd minute, Becker scored with his head to make it 2-0 and finally tipped the game in Union’s favour, and in the 90th minute he almost made it 3-0, but failed to score freely in front of VfL keeper Koen Casteels.

But even so, the 26-year-old was happy with his day’s work. “I’m happy that I scored a goal,” said Becker about his first competitive goal in the current season.
