One day before its league opener, FC Barcelona has activated the next “lever” and collected another 100 million euros. The new arrivals should thus be ready to register.
Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Co. at Camp Nou – but only as spectators? The possibility that FC Barcelona, which is struggling financially on the one hand, but on the other hand is extremely risk-averse, might not be able to register its prominent newcomers with La Liga, i.e. that they would not be eligible to play for the time being, was a real possibility until recently.
On Friday, one day before the league opener at home against Rayo Vallecano , the tide may have turned. The Catalans announced the activation of the next “lever” – which means that they have sold another 24.5 per cent of their audiovisual production company “Barça Studios” to the company “Orpheus Media”. In return, the Spanish vice-champion took another 100 million euros.
Spanish media such as “Marca” now believe that this income will enable Barcelona to register Lewandowski and Co. with La Liga and then already be able to use them on Saturday – even if the former has not yet happened at the moment. It remains a curious race against time, even if Barça – thanks to another waiver of future income – may now have won it.
