“Attacking the top eight”: Bayern bring in Madar from Fenerbahce

The squad shake-up at FC Bayern Munich continues apace. The double winners signed former NBA pick Yam Madar on Tuesday

FC Bayern Basketball has secured the services of Israeli international Yam Madar for the next two seasons. The 23-year-old point guard, who most recently played for Turkish champions and cup winners Fenerbahce Istanbul, signed a contract in Munich until 2026, the club announced on Tuesday. Madar’s contract in Istanbul, which was valid until 2025, had previously been terminated.

“We’ll attack the top eight in the Euroleague. I’m excited about this new challenge,” the ambitious Madar is quoted as saying in the club’s press release. His “energy, fighting spirit and dedication to the game, paired with his game intelligence and now good experience in the Euroleague” would be very helpful, explained Bayern’s managing director Marko Pesic.

Francisco successor at one

Madar, who made his professional basketball debut at the age of 17 with former Israeli champions Hapoel Tel Aviv, was drafted in the second round of the 2020 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, but stayed in Europe. In Munich, he fills the previously vacant playmaker position after Carsen Edwards’ contract expired in the summer and Sylvain Francisco moved to Lithuanian record champions Zalgiris Kaunas.
