Andy Murray’s comeback from injury continues following the disappointment of not being ready in time for Wimbledon. Today he plays Mackenzie McDonald at the Washington Open as he tries to haul himself back up the rankings following hip surgery that kept him out for a year.
Murray’s third tournament since his hip operation
The Washington Open will be Murray’s third tournament since his operation and will be his first reunion with the hard court. Whilst he knows he has a very long way to go, Murray is happy to have had four weeks of training since the last tournament and is feeling in good shape.
Murray is now ranked at 832
Former world no. 1 Murray is now ranked 832nd, whilst his American opponent is ranked 80th. However, McDonald has only been pro since 2016, so Murray has a great deal of experience over the younger player. The winner of the match will go on to play Britain’s Kyle Edmund, who beat Murray at Eastbourne.
Murray will be hoping that he can build up his fitness ready to go into the US Open as strong as possible on August 27th.
Andy Murray struck by lightning
Murray fans had a shock when Andy shared a photo of himself looking like he had been struck by lightning. No need to worry about Andy Murray lightning strikes, as it was just a funny remark about the Andy Murray crazy hairstyle he used to have. The Andy Murray long hair photos look scary, so we’re glad he decided to stick with short hair these days! He looked more like Krusty the Clown from the Simpsons than an elite tennis player – don’t ever grow that hair back Andy.
