Arsenal has been quite busy in the transfer market already this summer, with Wilshere being released and Bernd Leno, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Sokratis Papatathopoulos all moving to the Gunners. Sampdoria’s Lucas Torreira is another player likely to join the new look Arsenal but one player that could be leaving is Nacho Monreal.
The defender had a good season for Arsenal, even though the team struggled again in the Premier League and opted to replace manager Arsene Wenger with Unai Emery. Now he is being linked with a move back to Spain, with Real Sociedad keen on bringing him to the Anoeta Stadium.
Monreal could be keen on a move back to Spain
Whether Emery will be prepared to let the Spanish player depart remains to be seen but his signings so far do not include the acquisition of a left back. If Monreal makes it clear that he wants a move back to his home country, then Emery could have a difficult decision to make.
At 32, this could be Monreal’s last chance for a move and Real Sociedad are keen to snap him up as a replacement for Alvaro Odriozola who has recently moved to Real Madrid.
A busy transfer window for Arsenal
Emery has been quick to bring in players and looks likely to bolster the squad even further with a move for young French starlet Guendouzi. The 19-year-old midfielder has been on the radar of a few big clubs including Tottenham Hotspur and Emery will be keen to beat his London rivals to capture the player’s signature.
When you bring in a whole host of players and you are not playing Champions League football, you generally need to move some players out in order to make room for the new players. That could pave the way for Monreal to exit Arsenal, with Emery looking to set up a very different team to the one that finished sixth in the Premier League last season.
