ANOTHER WWE LEGEND LEAVES AEW

Former WWE Champion Jeff Hardy appears to be on the verge of leaving AEW. He is reportedly expected to join another league as early as this weekend

WWE competitor All Elite Wrestling is apparently losing another household name: According to consistent media reports, former WWE Champion Jeff Hardy will apparently be wrestling in another league this weekend.

According to Pro Wrestling Insider, Wrestling Observer and Fightful, Hardy is expected to join former employer TNA this weekend, where brother Matt also became active after leaving AEW in the spring.

Jeff’s contract with AEW is set to expire in mid-June, as Matt made public some time ago. Apparently AEW is waiving the unilateral option to extend the deal by the time he extends AEW due to injury, a standard industry clause.

Tony Khan’s promotion apparently has no interest in retaining him, and Jeff – like his brother – had also expressed frustration with the way he had been used recently.

AEW AND JEFF HARDY: TABLECLOTH SEEMS TO BE CUT

The 46-year-old Jeff Hardy was one of WWE’s biggest crowd favorites in his prime, but his career was repeatedly overshadowed by drug and alcohol problems.

After an incident that remains a mystery to this day – Hardy left the ring in the middle of a match – he was fired by WWE in 2022. Although he had received a comeback offer in the meantime, he moved to AEW – where he once again made murky headlines in 2023: he was caught drink-driving with an alleged 2.9 blood alcohol level.

Although the exact value was disputed in court for technical reasons, Hardy was given a suspended sentence. AEW brought Hardy back after therapy, but he no longer played a major role in the program. There were many signs that Khan had permanently lost confidence in Hardy. Most recently, Hardy was out of action due to a concussion.

TRIVIA ABOUT WRESTLING

Jeff Hardy has been under contract with TNA (formerly Impact) several times. The former second largest league in the USA no longer plays the same role in the show fight landscape as it used to, but a successful engagement there seven years ago paved the way for Hardy’s return to WWE and a second spring there.

A similar scenario is not out of the question now: Matt Hardy has already made it clear that he has not signed a permanent contract with TNA. On Saturday night, he challenges champion Moose at the Against All Odds show – an unannounced comeback of the brother in this context is inevitable
