Andrea Dovizioso gives update after motocross crash: Long list of fractures

Andrea Dovizioso suffered several broken bones and injuries in a motocross crash – He gives an update and also an all-clear

On April 9, former MotoGP rider Andrea Dovizioso had a serious accident during motocross training. The Italian was riding on the track near Terranuova Bracciolini in the province of Arezzo. Dovizioso lost consciousness in the crash and had to be flown by helicopter to Careggi Hospital in Florence by emergency services

The all-clear was given early on that the 38-year-old had not suffered any life-threatening injuries.

He suffered a long list of injuries: “I broke my right collarbone. It had to be operated on because it was in bad shape. The ligaments in my [right] shoulder also had to be repaired.”

“The other fractures are not as serious, but you have to be patient. I have two broken ribs, three broken vertebral processes and a small crack in the sternum,” Dovizioso lists. “In addition, the nerve in my left knee is damaged.”

“I also have a small paresis in my foot, but that has already recovered 100 percent. I broke my left wrist, but everything has been put back together. And I have a small fracture in the hip socket in the pelvic area.”

“I have to take good care of that, which is why I have to use a wheelchair for two to three weeks.” After initial treatment in Florence, Dovizioso went on to a hospital in Sassuolo.

Doctor Giuseppe Porcellini carried out the operations there. Dovizioso has already been in his hands in the past following injuries. “I had a difficult week in hospital, but the team helped me to get through those six days well. “

“I would like to thank the hospital in Florence and the hospital in Sassuolo,” said the Italian. He also states that he will take enough time for his recovery and rehabilitation.

“I think what happens in life, when you have these setbacks, it gives you the opportunity to have a clearer focus on what we want to do in life. I will think about that. I have a lot of time to think.”

“But I think there is also a positive side to it,” says Dovizioso. After the end of his MotoGP career in the fall of 2022, he has dedicated himself to his second great passion, motocross.

He not only races motocross, but has also taken over the management of the track in Faenza with his company RPM. The “04 Park – Monte Coralli” has been and is being completely modernized. The work should be completed by the end of 2024
