Tennis professional Daniel Altmaier (25) has been eliminated in the first round at the ATP Masters in Shanghai. The Davis Cup player from Kempen lost to Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka 4:6, 6:3, 6:7 (2:7) and missed a duel with French Open finalist Casper Ruud (Norway/No. 8).
Alexander Zverev (Hamburg/No. 9) and Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein/No. 21) will also enter the ten-million-dollar tournament in the second round after a walk-through. Yannick Hanfmann, on the other hand, is challenged like Altmaier in the opener. The Karlsruhe player will face Australian James Duckworth on Wednesday.
