Morocco’s national players as well as coaches have donated blood in support following the earthquake back home.
In a story on the Instagram channel of the North African selection on Saturday, various professionals nominated for the selection were briefly shown drawing blood with a cannula in their arm. Coach Walid Regragui also took part.
“Right now, it’s about providing blood to those who are in a critical situation,” read an Instagram post from the foundation of former Bundesliga player Achraf Hakimi (Paris Saint-Germain). “Donating blood is everyone’s responsibility to save the lives of as many people as possible. Your help is essential. “
UEFA calls for a minute’s silence
The ex-Dortmund man has already called for cohesion ahead of this action by the Moroccan national team and offered his condolences to the victims. “We are experiencing a difficult moment for our compatriots. It’s time to help each other to save as many lives as possible,” said the 24-year-old professional.

Following the devastating earthquake, the death toll – as of early Saturday evening – has risen to over 1000. The Moroccan Ministry of the Interior announced on Saturday afternoon that at least 1204 more people had suffered injuries.
Meanwhile, the European Football Union (UEFA) has announced a minute’s silence for the earthquake victims in Morocco at all international and club matches within its jurisdiction. The expressions of mourning are to be shown from Sunday until 21 September. “The thoughts of European football are with the people of Morocco in these difficult times,” UEFA says. Numerous national teams, clubs and football stars have also already expressed their condolences.
