Daniel Theis will not go on a championship hunt with the Oklahoma City Thunder, the team released the German less than 24 hours after signing him.
The franchise officially announced this. Just the day before, OKC had signed the big man from the New Orleans Pelicans for a 2031 second-round pick and cash considerations, as the Pels had come under the luxury tax line.
Theis had an expiring contract worth $2.1 million, so now the German becomes a free agent. It is quite possible that Theis could be interesting for some contenders at the minimum. A return to Europe is also not out of the question; last summer, EuroLeague champions Panathinaikos had already expressed interest.
Theis only saw limited court time in New Orleans this season, averaging 4.3 points and 4.3 rebounds in around 16 minutes of play.
