After eleven and a half years at Spurs: Lloris about to move to the MLS

According to English media reports, Hugo Lloris is finally moving away from London. The Frenchman is said to have already reached an agreement in principle with Los Angeles FC

Until last summer, Hugo Lloris was a permanent fixture in goal for Tottenham Hotspur. The 2018 French World Cup winner has made a total of 444 appearances for Spurs since the summer of 2012, when the London club lured him to the Premier League from Olympique Lyon. Since then, Lloris has made 361 appearances in England’s top flight, keeping 128 clean sheets.

After Lloris made 25 Premier League appearances last season and six in the Champions League, the 37-year-old has yet to play a single competitive match between the posts this season. New head coach Ange Postecoglou, who arrived in the summer, sees Guglielmo Vicario and Fraser Forster as his clear number one and two.

Lloris had already sounded out his options on the transfer market in the summer, but no agreement was reached. This winter, however, a departure from North London is looking increasingly likely. According to consistent English media reports, there is already an agreement in principle between three parties: Lloris, Spurs – and Los Angeles FC.

Before preparations for the new MLS season begin, Lloris is expected to start work in the USA. The signing of the contract is now only a formality. After eleven and a half years with Spurs, Lloris is making a fresh start of sorts

Crepeau leaves LAFC

The LAFC regular goalkeeper of the past two years, Maxime Crepeau, has terminated his contract and will be released on January 1, 2024. The way is clear for Lloris.

A look at the past two years alone shows just how ambitious the Frenchman’s new club is: LAFC won the MLS in 2022 after a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Philadelphia Union (3-0), while in 2023 they only lost in the final to Columbus Crew (1-2) led by German Julian Gressel.

The 2024 MLS season begins on February 22 with Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami against Real Salt Lake. LAFC kick off on February 24 (10:30 p.m. CEST) against the Seattle Sounders.
