The driver from Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport secures fastest time in qualifying for the first race of the ADAC GT4 Germany at Oschersleben
Gabriele Piana was unbeatable in qualifying for Saturday’s ADAC GT4 Germany race at Oschersleben. In the BMW M4 GT4 from Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport, the Italian lapped the 3.667-kilometer track in 1:29.811 minutes.
It is his fourth pole position in the ADAC sports car series and his third at Oschersleben. “The track here just suits me and I really like it,” said a beaming Piana, who shares the cockpit with Michael Schrey.
A look at the timesheets shows just how well Piana is coping at Oschersleben. Piana’s lead over second place in qualifying was 0.419 seconds.
“The team sent me out onto the track at the ideal time. On my first fast lap, I first adjusted to the conditions,” explained Piana. “Nevertheless, that was a strong time. I then improved again on the next lap. However, I wasn’t completely satisfied with the lap.”
Second place went to the Mercedes-AMG GT4 of Enzo Joulie and Marc de Fulgencio (Mücke Motorsport) with the aforementioned 0.419-second gap. The Spaniard de Fulgencio was at the wheel in qualifying and posted a time of 1:30.230 minutes. Piana’s Hofor Racing by Bonk Motorsport team-mates Tim Reiter and Leon Wassertheurer finished third, 0.563 seconds off the lead.
The BMW of Leyton Fourie and Max Rosam (FK Performance Motorsport) finished fourth, 0.783 seconds behind. Thomas Rackl and Andreas Jochimsen (ME Motorsport) completed the top five. This meant that four BMW M4 GT4s occupied the top five positions in qualifying.
The first race of the ADAC GT4 Germany will start at 17:30 on Saturday and will be broadcast live on free-to-air TV on SPORT1. The action will also be streamed on sport1.de, ServusTV On and the ADAC Motorsport channel youtube.com/adacmotorsports.
“We start from first position, so victory is obviously the clear objective. My team-mate Michael Schrey is also very experienced. So we are going into the race with confidence,” says pole setter Piana looking ahead.
