ADAC GT Masters Nürburgring 2024: Zimmermann with new record lap

Tim Zimmermann beats the track record set by team-mate Benjamin Hites last year – First endurance race in the ADAC GT Masters from 3 pm

Tim Zimmermann has been unstoppable at the Nürburgring so far. After setting the fastest time of the day on Friday, the Grasser Racing Team driver put his Lamborghini Huracan GT3 Evo2 on pole position in qualifying for the fifth round of the ADAC GT Masters season. In the session on Saturday morning, the 27-year-old even set a new qualifying record with a top time of 1:25.219 minutes.

“It finally worked out. I’m very proud of the team and my performance. Of course, we want to win the race. Victory is the only thing that counts now,” said Zimmermann full of conviction.

At the start of qualifying, Jannik Julius-Bernhart, Alexander Schwarzer (Fach Auto Tech) and Nico Hantke (Walkenhorst Motorsport) used the open track to bring the Pirelli tires up to operating temperature on the 20 degree Celsius asphalt.

After about ten minutes, qualifying picked up speed and the lead changed hands constantly. Shortly before the end of the session, Zimmermann set a new qualifying record, which his team-mate Benjamin Hites had only set last year.

Nobody was able to beat this time until the end and ultimately meant pole position for the German-Chilean duo. With a gap of just 0.076 seconds, Tom Kalender placed his Landgraf Motorsport Mercedes-AMG GT3 in second place

The entire second row of the grid is occupied by Finn Wiebelhaus and Salman Owega of the Haupt Racing Team, which also relies on the premium Mercedes-AMG brand. Fifth place on the grid went to another Mercedes-AMG GT3, Marcel Marchewicz from Team Schnitzelalm Racing.

At the fifth championship race, spectators can look forward to the premiere of the first endurance race in the history of the ADAC GT Masters from 3:00 pm. Television partner Sport1 will be broadcasting live from the Nürburgring from 14:45.
