While Bayern bounced back, Alba Berlin had a gloomy Sunday. Champions Ulm continued their strong start to the season in Würzburg
Former series champions Alba Berlin suffered a remarkably clear home defeat in the BBL and lost ground in the long-distance duel with defending champions ratiopharm Ulm. The club from the capital was clearly beaten 75:108 (37:57) by Syntainics MBC from Weißenfels, losing each of the four quarters. The visitors drained over 60 percent of their shots and controlled the Euroleague participants in every respect.
Champions Ulm, on the other hand, who were severely weakened in the summer, are still on course for success. The narrow 88:83 (45:41) victory at Würzburg Baskets was a laborious affair, but the team of Head Coach Anton Gavel held its nerve in the final seconds. Ulm and surprise team Niners Chemnitz are currently top of the league with seven wins each from eight games. Chemnitz had suffered its only defeat to date on the first matchday against Ulm.
In the afternoon, FC Bayern Munich’s basketball team halted their negative trend and recorded a win in the Bundesliga. Pablo Laso’s team defeated MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg 92:84 (39:27) in their own arena on Sunday. Meanwhile, runners-up Telekom Baskets Bonn gave hosts BG Göttingen no chance with a 101:77 (50:35) victory. Like Bayern, the Champions League winners now have a 5:3 record, while BG (1:5) still has to wait for its second win of the season. Savion Flagg scored 23 points as the top scorer for the visitors under Head Coach Roel Moors, who left Göttingen to join Telekom Baskets this season.
