Hours after the surprise sacking of Daniele de Rossi, those responsible at AS Roma have already announced his successor in Ivan Juric. The 49-year-old is certainly no stranger to Serie A.
Although Daniele de Rossi only took over for José Mourinho in January and only extended his contract until 2027 in June after a good phase with some respectable soccer, the Roma bosses unceremoniously sacked the Roma legend this Wednesday.
Only hours later, in the early hours of Wednesday evening, the Giallorossi announced his successor. As expected, the management around new technical director Florent Ghisolfi and owner and US billionaire Dan Friedkin brought Ivan Juric on board.
The 49-year-old Croatian did not extend his employment contract in the summer after a long-term position at FC Torino and has been without a job ever since. Now the former Hajduk Split, FC Sevilla, FC Crotone and CFC Genoa professional is set to get the Romans back on track after four matchdays without a win – initially with a contract until June 30, 2025.
First signing for top club
Juric certainly has enough experience for this, as he has only worked for Italian clubs in his coaching career to date – including several spells at CFC Genoa. But he has also worked for Hellas Verona and, most recently, Torino. However, it is also clear that the former apprentice of Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini is now taking over a really ambitious top Serie A club for the first time, which has a broad squad and has only scored two goals despite having well-known players such as Paulo Dybala and new striker Artem Dovbyk
This should all improve next Sunday, when the capital city side face surprising league leaders Udinese Calcio – coached by former Lauterer Kosta Runjaic – at home in the Stadio Olimpico. New summer signing Mats Hummels could also get his first Roma minutes here. The ex-Dortmund player had only recently decided to join the Giallorossi and, according to his own statement, also because of the now dismissed de Rossi. Now his debut under Juric beckons
