Halleesche FC have found what they were looking for and have hired André Meyer. For the 37-year-old, it is a return to his homeland.
As the third division club announced on Monday evening, Meyer has signed a contract until June 2023 and succeeds Florian Schnorrenberg, who was dismissed shortly before Christmas after just one point from six league games.
Meyer was under contract with the regional league team Berliner AK until recently, which has now been terminated at the coach’s request. The 37-year-old was born in Halle and is now returning to the Saale. “For me it is an emotional story to return to my hometown as a coach,” Meyer is quoted as saying in the HFC’s club statement. “Now it’s a matter of using the short preparation time to exploit potential on and off the pitch. “
Minge speaks of a “new era “
Before joining BAK, Meyer worked as a youth coach for 1. FC Köln, Hertha BSC, FC Augsburg and Union Berlin. He then coached regional league side Union Fürstenwalde for a season before becoming co-coach to his brother Daniel Meyer at Erzgebirge Aue. In the past year and a half, Meyer then coached in the Regionalliga again, and the BAK he coaches is currently in third place in the Regionalliga Nordost.
“We have signed a coach who has all the prerequisites for successful work and has developed step by step,” said Halle’s sports director Ralf Minge, explaining the signing. “The commitment to HFC is the logical consequence for him to gain a foothold in professional football and to start a new era together with our team.
