A guest gift is enough: Dybala leads Roma to victory

After the bitter 1:5 against Florence, AS Roma celebrated a home victory against Turin. However, the Romans, who were only partially convincing, were dependent on a big invitation from Turin.

It was a defeat that had reverberated: the 5-1 loss to Florence had led to harsh criticism of Roma coach Ivan Juric, who wanted to see a response from his starting lineup, which had been changed in four positions, against his former club Torino. However, despite being optically superior, it took a good quarter of an hour to see any changes – and they came in the form of a double gift from the guests: Linetty’s short back pass landed at Dybala’s feet. The Argentine’s equally short shot duped the weak Masina, who half-scored an own goal (20′).

Svilar on the post

In fact, the first half was already over. Paolo Vanoli’s guests, who started with two fresh players compared to the 1-0 win against Como, became more active but did not really pose a threat. Maripan’s header (34′) and a slipped Vojvoda cross (40′) remained the most dangerous Torino approaches, which in turn was only slightly endangered by an attempt by Angelino (24′).
In the second half, the Romans started again more actively. Pisilli was close to making it 2-0 in the 52nd minute, but Angelino was offside before the youngster’s shot on target. Shortly afterwards, Ricci distributed another invitation that Le Fee did not accept (55′). The narrow lead therefore remained until the final phase – also because substitute Njie was unable to get past Svilar on the counter (65′).

Narrow lead held

The final 25 minutes were exciting, but only in terms of the score. The men from Piedmont no longer posed any serious threat, a fate they shared with the Giallorossi, who thus held on to their narrow lead.

Having overcome the bitter defeat against Fiorentina in terms of results at least, Roma will next play away against Hellas Verona on Sunday at 6pm. On the same day, at 3pm, FC Turin will host the very team that put the boot in on the Romans: AC Fiorentina.
