325 Premier League games: England mourn the loss of goalscorer Campbell

English soccer is mourning the death of long-serving Premier League striker Kevin Campbell, who died after a short illness at the age of just 54.

On Saturday, the management of Kevin Campbell, who was only 54 years old, confirmed his death in a short public statement. This was followed by a flood of condolences from the Premier League, where he had played for Nottingham Forest, Everton and West Bromwich Albion as well as Arsenal.

“We are deeply saddened by the death of Kevin Campbell,” the Premier League wrote on its official channels: “Our thoughts and condolences are with Kevin’s family, friends and everyone associated with the clubs he played for. “

English champion with “his” Gunners

Campbell trained at Arsenal, where he went through the academy. From 1987 onwards, the goalscorer made 210 appearances and scored 55 goals for the Gunners, with whom he won all the titles of his career – the English Championship (1991), the FA Cup (1993), the European Cup Winners’ Cup (1994), the English League Cup (1993) and the English Super Cup (1992).

Arsenal also paid tribute to him in a short statement: “We are devastated to learn that our former striker Kevin Campbell has passed away after a short illness. Kevin was adored by everyone at the club. Our thoughts are with his friends and family at this difficult time. Rest in peace, Kevin.” Campbell had only been admitted to hospital earlier this month.

Crossley says goodbye to “a true gentleman “

Between 1999 and 2005, Campbell made 145 appearances and scored 45 goals for Everton, 45 games and six goals for West Bromwich and 38 appearances (nine goals) for Nottingham. Campbell made his only international appearance for Trabzonspor (1998/99) and ended his career with Cardiff City on July 1, 2007.

Mark Crossley, who once played with Campbell at Nottingham, wrote on X: “Life can be so cruel sometimes. The news of the death of my former teammate Kevin Campbell has shaken me to the core. He was a true gentleman, a great player, a shining light in the dressing room, a fun-loving guy. “
