Boris Becker is repeatedly brought into play as a potential trainer for Alexander Zverev. Now the 27-year-old has mentioned an obstacle.
Almost every time Alexander Zverev narrowly misses out on winning a Grand Slam title, the name Boris Becker comes up.
Then the German tennis idol is called upon to be Zverev’s coach, to help the 27-year-old achieve his dream of winning the title in Melbourne, Paris, London or New York by helping him to get the last few percent out of his game.
Now Zverev has come forward again on the subject and is not averse to the idea.
“I love Boris and I also believe that he has an incredible knowledge of tennis,“ the Hamburg native told Tennis Magazine.
”As soon as that’s resolved”
In general, Zverev is open to talks with the man from Leimen, but he sees one hurdle to working as a coach.
“I don’t know how it is with him in terms of travel,” Zverev asks the question and adds: ”That’s the only thing about him that’s a question mark. As soon as he has resolved and clarified that, we can talk about it.”
A general dislike sounds different and there is also communication. “We are always in contact with him and talk to each other often,” says Zverev about his relationship with Becker, who was most recently the coach of Holger Rune.
The collaboration with the Dane ended after just four months. According to Rune’s mother, who also acts as her son’s manager, the main reason for the separation was the lack of time on Becker’s part, who also works as a TV pundit on the side.
