The performance of Borussia Dortmund in the 2:4 against Glasgow Rangers is still causing annoyance for sporting director Michael Zorc and his successor Sebastian Kehl the day after.
“An embarrassing and disgraceful performance”, Zorc called the performance, “not appropriate for a European Cup match”. Marco Rose’s team was “not ready for this game at any time”. And yet, the sporting director believes, there could not have been a better starting position: “Thursday evening, floodlights, drizzle, you’re playing against Glasgow Rangers: what more could you want as a footballer?
The reality was different: “And then I play so lame, I’m always one step too late, I have no pace, no willingness and I’m not able to increase the pace.” Only Raphael Guerreiro’s late second goal keeps his hopes high for the second leg next Thursday: “If the team has balls, they’ll turn it around there. “
Kehl takes the same line
Sebastian Kehl, Zorc’s successor in the summer, was also “very, very disillusioned with the performance of the players” in an interview with the SID. Kehl continued: “We sat on the bench and thought: Why are we starting like this? Why don’t we take the game in its toughness and importance?” He added that this “broke all our heads. That was embarrassing”.
