Zimmermann’s plan of small steps

Hannover coach Jan Zimmermann is spreading optimism ahead of the performance in Düsseldorf. But a poor performance and a defeat would noticeably increase the pressure on the 96 coach.

So you can also try to brighten up the dismal sporting situation a bit, at least verbally. “Of the last five halves, four were good,” Jan Zimmermann replied at Hannover 96’s press conference when asked what he had done this week to win again for once. In the second 45 minutes in Regensburg, in the cup against Düsseldorf and in the first half against Aue, his team played well, the 96 coach then emphasised.

But the problem is: 96 lost 1:3 in Regensburg, played only 1:1 at home against Aue and only delivered a consistently good performance in the cup against Düsseldorf. And 96 now wants to build on that in the league match in Düsseldorf on Saturday. “We have had a lot of good sequences in training, I have seen a lot of good goal finishes and I am very confident that we can build on the cup match,” the coach spreads optimism. “We have to make more use of the good phases we have, so that we score more goals and don’t concede as easily as we did against Aue.

Zimmermann: “The league is tight “

And if possible take three points from the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia. A defeat with a poor performance would significantly increase the pressure on Zimmermann. They are two points clear of the 16th relegation spot, too few for Hannover’s standards, which have already fallen in recent months. “The league is tight,” Zimmermann explained. “We have to take one small step at a time. And not think when we’ve taken a step that we can jump right back.” Two good halves in Düsseldorf would be good, after all. That would be seven from the last four games. And ideally three more points on the account.
