“You are an inspiration”: Paul Zipser is back!

Paul Zipser is back – there can hardly be much better news in the BBL at the moment. The FC Bayern national player scored his first points again after a long break.

It’s a story that should probably give all basketball fans goosebumps. Paul Zipser from FC Bayern is back on the floor. After just a few seconds against Hamburg, the German international recently played 13:35 minutes in the win against Bamberg (83:62) and scored seven points. “There was a bit of excitement, the whole team introduction and everything around it was a special moment,” Zipser told Magenta Sport about his first game.

The 28-year-old has fought his way back! Last summer it was not clear whether he would be able to play professional basketball again, as the Bayern player had to undergo emergency surgery in mid-June after suffering a brain haemorrhage. After a long rehab, a lot of work with sometimes only very small progress, Zipser never lost his courage and strength – and has now been rewarded with his comeback in the BBL.

“For me it’s just the next step. In the first three or four normal training sessions there was always a bit of excitement, slowly the routine is coming back,” said Zipser.

Günther: “You were missing in many ways “

That the 28-year-old is back is of course pleasing to the whole BBL. “Congratulations on this comeback, it’s insane, you won the fight, you’re an inspiration. I’m looking forward to playing against you again soon,” said Bastian Doreth, Bayreuth’s captain and Zipser’s national team colleague, for example. And Ulm’s Per Günther added with his humorous manner: “One of the best and at the same time most beautiful players we have in Germany is back. You were missing in many ways. It’s nice to have you back.”

Special moments for Zipser, too, to hear such warm words from his colleagues. For the 28-year-old, it’s now step by step, without rushing anything. “I won’t be able to go 30 minutes right now, but it hasn’t been a physical injury either, where a muscle or ligament has to get used to the strain again. My body is ready, we now look from day to day and from game to game how it feels,” said the German international.
