Yamaha on WSBK 2025: “There is no offer” for Andrea Iannone, but …

We spoke exclusively to Yamaha project manager Andrea Dosoli about Andrea Iannone and asked him how he rates Dominique Aegerter’s performance

For several weeks now, Andrea Iannone has been linked with a move from GoEleven-Ducati to GRT-Yamaha. The rumors say that Iannone has the chance to sign directly with Yamaha. Compared to the current situation, this would be a big step forward for the former MotoGP factory rider, as he has to buy into GoEleven with his sponsorship money.

On Thursday ahead of the WSBK weekend in France, Iannone confirmed that he is still wavering between another season at GoEleven and a move to Yamaha, with the Italian speaking of the most important decision of his life. We met with Yamaha WSBK Project Manager Andrea Dosoli at Magny-Cours and talked about Iannone’s chances. Dosoli also commented on Dominique Aegerter, whose seat is currently up for grabs.

“There is no offer from Yamaha for next year”, ”But I can’t ignore the fact that we have a free seat. That’s why I have to find the best solution. “

Yamaha surprised by Andrea Iannone’s furious comeback

With his strong debut in the Superbike World Championship, Iannone has attracted the interest of Yamaha. “What is certain is that he has surprised many people in the paddock after not riding for four years,” commented Dosoli. “His performances are crucial. It is my responsibility to consider him. His name is on the list of potential riders for next season. “

In the same breath, Dosoli confirms that there have been talks with “many riders” in recent weeks. “No decision has been made yet,” emphasizes the Italian. “We have great respect for Dominique. Our priority is to continue working with the four riders. But we cannot ignore the fact that there are other options. We have to look at these before we can make a decision. “

How Yamaha assesses Dominique Aegerter’s performance

Since the 2023 WSBK season, Dominique Aegerter has been riding one of the Yamahas in the GRT team. Last year, the Swiss rider had his team-mate, ex-MotoGP rider and former Moto2 World Champion Remy Gardner, largely under control. The current season has been bumpy for Aegerter

Due to an injury, Aegerter missed the winter tests and went into the new season unprepared. He was also let down by the technology on several occasions and lost important points as a result.

“He was very unlucky. But despite the problems, he achieved pretty good results. I remember his podium at the season finale in Jerez, for example,” commented Dosoli. “He certainly wasn’t lucky. But I appreciate his dedication, his speed and his loyalty to Yamaha. He has won two world championship titles with us.”

Aegerter will be absent from the WSBK weekend at Magny-Cours due to injury. The Swiss rider will be replaced by Alessandro Delbianco
