As expected, Yamaha and Alex Rins extend their collaboration for another two years – The Spaniard returns at Silverstone after his Assen injury
It has been clear for weeks that Yamaha would extend the contract with Alex Rins. Now the Japanese brand has officially confirmed the extension. The Spaniard will also be Fabio Quartararo’s teammate in the 2025 and 2026 MotoGP seasons
“Basically, we wanted to keep him and he wanted to stay.”
“So there was no problem in that respect. It just took a while because we never really had the time to sit down and talk.” Concrete talks took place before the summer break in Assen.
Rins then injured his right foot in a highsider at the start of the Dutch TT and broke two bones in his right hand. He had to undergo surgery and missed the German Grand Prix.
Now the Spaniard is back at the Grand Prix of Great Britain. “It’s nice to be back after the recovery period. I feel good,” confirmed Rins. “The three-week break has helped me to prepare for this weekend.”
“I’ve had time to resume training. I’m looking forward to Silverstone. It’s a track that I really like, so I feel like it’s a good place to make a comeback.” He won the race with Suzuki in 2019
At the start of the race weekend, the contract was also formally signed. “Alex signing for two more years is an important part of our plan for the MotoGP project,” emphasized Managing Director Lin Jarvis.
“I am very happy to be working with Yamaha for another two years. I would like to thank the team and the management for their trust,” says Rins. We have a clear goal: to get Yamaha where they belong, namely in the fight for the world title.”

Rins rode for Suzuki from 2017 to 2022 and won five races. In 2023, he raced for LCR Honda and won once. A serious leg injury put him out of action for a long time. Rins has been racing for the Yamaha factory team since 2024
