WWE unveils the first big match for the historic Show Bash in Berlin on RAW after SummerSlam: A living legend challenges the new World Champion Gunther.
The historic first major WWE event in Germany has its first highlight!
On Tuesday night’s edition of the Monday Night RAW TV show, the first match for Bash in Berlin later this month was announced: Newly crowned World Champion Gunther from Austria will face living legend Randy Orton.
WWE Bash in Berlin: Randy Orton challenges Gunther
Gunther had taken the World Title from Damian Priest at SummerSlam on Saturday at the NFL Arena in Cleveland, becoming the first German-speaking holder of a major WWE title.
Gunther now opened the show on RAW – introduced by his German ally Ludwig Kaiser, who recently had to take a break from the ring with a broken rib. His first challenger appeared on the scene: Orton, who was originally scheduled for Friday’s SmackDown and still has a score to settle with Gunther
Reminder: Orton was Gunther’s final opponent in the King of the Ring tournament, in which the “Ring General” earned the title match at SummerSlam. At the end of the match, there was a real-life mishap when the referee let an actually invalid pinfall go through with Orton’s shoulder up.
Now WWE uses the unplanned incident to stage a big rematch between Gunther and the 14-time WWE and World Champion. “I will leave Germany as the new World Champion,” Orton threatened – the big duel will take place on August 31 in Berlin’s Uber Arena, formerly the Mercedes-Benz Arena.
Local hero Kaiser is also likely to contest a major match in Berlin: Immediately after the opening segment, the son of Catch legend Axel Dieter contested another match against his rival Sheamus. The former WWE Champion from Ireland was victorious this time – it is possible that the third duel of the small trilogy, which is currently tied 1:1, will take place in Berlin.
