WWE honors legendary duo

The Natural Disasters are moving into the WWE Hall of Fame – a late, posthumous tribute for Hulk Hogan rival Earthquake, who died in 2006.

Late honor for two legendary wrestling giants: WWE has officially confirmed that the Natural Disasters are moving into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Fred Ottman aka Typhoon (formerly also known as Tugboat) had already spoken about the upcoming induction into the Hall of Fame himself; on Monday, WWE made the appointment official before the current episode of the TV show Monday Night RAW. Typhoon’s partner Earthquake (John Tenta) will be honored posthumously; former rival Hulk Hogan’s died of cancer in 2006 at just 42 years old.

An imposing tag team

The Super Heavyweights Typhoon and Earthquake joined forces at the end of 1990 and were portrayed as the dominant force in the division, with a combined fighting weight of over 400 kilograms.

The Disasters – initially accompanied by manager legend Jimmy Hart – fought a feud with the Legion of Doom (the now deceased Road Warriors Hawk and Animal) in 1991, and in the summer of 1992 they won the – having become crowd favorites – meanwhile the tag team titles of Money Inc. (Ted DiBiase and Irwin R. Schyster).

WWE Executive “Triple H” Paul Levesque – who is himself a Hall of Famer – praised Tenta and Ottman as a tag team that excelled at combining mass and agility: “They were truly the unsung heroes of the tag team division of their time.”

The Hall of Fame ceremony will take place on April 18 in Las Vegas, before the WrestleMania 41 megashow at the same location. In addition to Levesque and the Natural Disasters, Michelle McCool and Lex Luger will also be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
