WSBK 2024: Dominique Aegerter continues with Yamaha

Dominique Aegerter will continue to race with Yamaha in the World Superbike Championship in 2024 – His one-year contract has been extended for another year

Dominique Aegerter will continue to compete with Yamaha in the World Superbike Championship in 2024. The Swiss and the manufacturer made the official announcement this Friday. The 32-year-old’s existing contract has been extended by a further year.

Although it is not explicitly mentioned in the press release, it can be assumed that Aegerter will continue to ride for GRT-Yamaha. It is also possible that Yamaha is keeping a loophole open in case no suitable replacement can be found for Toprak Razgatlioglu in the factory team. The Turk will join BMW in 2024.

“I am happy and proud to have extended my contract with Yamaha to stay in WorldSBK with my R1 until 2024,” said Aegerter.

“I have won two Supersport World Championship titles with Yamaha, but now my goal is to improve my results and be more competitive in the Superbike class, and I will do my best to achieve that goal.”

As a rookie, he has had “some great battles” so far this season, from which he has been able to learn a lot, stresses the Swiss rider, explaining, “I want to be up front on a regular basis, and that’s what I’ll be focusing on next season.”

“I would like to thank Yamaha for their continued confidence in me and everyone who has helped me get to this position. Among them I would like to think especially of Mirko Giansanti, who passed away recently and who played an invaluable role in the GRT Yamaha team.”

Race director Andrea Dosoli praises Aegerter for “adapting so quickly to WorldSBK” and recalls the latter’s performance in qualifying at Phillip Island, where he secured a place on the front row of the grid in the first race.

“Since then he has gone through a solid progression, improving every weekend and finishing three races so far as the best rider from an independent team.”

“I am confident that he will increase that number by the end of the year. That is why I am delighted to announce the extension of his current contract for another season. I wish Dominique and his team all the best as they continue to progress,” said Dosoli.
