Wozniacki bids farewell to Kerber

Copenhagen – Former world number one Caroline Wozniacki has bid farewell to the big tennis stage with a final showdown with Germany’s number one Angelique Kerber

In her farewell match against her long-time German companion, the 31-year-old Dane won 7-5, 6-4 at Copenhagen’s Royal Arena, showing in front of a crowd of around 10,000 that she can still play top-level tennis more than two years after her last match on the WTA Tour.

The best tennis player in Danish history had already played her last official match at the Australian Open 2020. Her farewell match in front of her home crowd then had to be postponed twice because of the Corona pandemic. Originally, 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams had been scheduled as the opponent for the show match, but in late summer 2021, the organisers had announced that Kerber would play Wozniacki.
