“Would be honoured”: Will Lewis Hamilton become an honorary citizen of Brazil?

Lewis Hamilton could soon become an honorary citizen of Brazil and would be honoured, as he writes on Twitter – Brit wants to spend more time in Brazil

Will Lewis Hamilton soon be granted honorary citizenship by Brazil? Plans to this effect are currently in the lower house of the Brazilian parliament, but the proposal has not yet been put to a vote. “I’d be honoured,” Hamilton last spoke out on Twitter when he learned of the plans.

Because Hamilton, whose great role model Ayrton Senna hails from Brazil, is a big fan of the country and would love to be there more often, as he revealed most recently in a speech at VTEX Day, a digital transformation event.

“I want to spend more time here in Brazil. It’s such a beautiful culture. I’ve only been to Rio and Sao Paulo, but I’d also like to be here for Christmas or New Year,” he said, according to news agency ‘Reuters’.

His friends like footballer Neymar or surfer Gabriel Medina would invite him every year, “but I never had the chance. I’m still waiting for my Brazilian passport,” the Briton said with a laugh.

Possibly Hamilton could soon get a passport as an honorary citizen. The idea was raised by MP Andre Figueiredo after Hamilton won last year’s Brazilian Grand Prix and presented the flag on the podium. This also earned the Mercedes driver great favour with fans.

In his native Britain, Lewis Hamilton was knighted last year.
