The top class of the World Rallycross Championship will also have to miss the guest appearance in Germany at the Estering, as investigations into the fire are still ongoing
The fire at Team Special One on 21 July in the Lydden Hill paddock continues to put the top class of the World Rallycross Championship (WRX) out of action. As the search for the cause of the devastating fire is still ongoing, the top class RX1e will also not compete next weekend (19/20 August) at the Estering in Buxtehude.
The World Automobile Federation (FIA) announced. “The investigation into the cause of the fire during the WRX race at Lydden Hill on 21 July is ongoing,” it said in a statement.
“While a considerable amount of data and information has been collected and analysed, the FIA has decided for safety reasons to postpone the RX1e race at the Estering in Germany, originally scheduled for 19 and 20 August, also so that the investigation can continue without delay.”
As a result, only the RX2e classes and the RX1 and RX3 of the European Championship, for which it is the season finale, will compete at the Estering. The RX1e class of the WRX is scheduled to race on 7 and 8 October in Cape Town and on 11 and 12 November in Hong Kong.
The fire had broken out in Special One Racing’s team tent in mid-July before the start of the race weekend at Lydden Hill, destroying Sebastien Loeb and Guerlain Chicherit’s two Lancia Delta cars and the team’s equipment. Team owner Chicherit subsequently declared that his team would no longer compete in WRX this season.
Due to the fire, the RX1e electric class, which was introduced in 2022, had already not raced at Lydden Hill and Mettet in Belgium. In Mettet, some WRX drivers had competed in the junior RX2e class, where five-time world champion Johan Kristoffersson secured victory.
The Swede leads the WRC standings after three events with a 27-point advantage over Niclas Grönholm.
