After some very exciting games so far in the World Cup, there will be a few teams that are allowing themselves to dream about what it would feel like to lift the World Cup Trophy. Some of the world’s greatest players have lifted that trophy like Pele and Maradona and it is the biggest trophy that a player can win in their career.
Winning the World Cup ensures that the players become national legends and their achievements will be remembered for many years to come. It is also a stunning trophy to win, making it even more of an exciting prospect.
History of the World Cup Trophy
The first World Cup Trophy was named after a former FIFA president, Jules Rimet and was a gold plated trophy that showed the Greek goddess of victory. In 1970, Brazil won the World Cup for the third time, meaning that they got to keep the Jules Rimet. So the 1974 competition saw the introduction of a new trophy, named the FIFA World Cup Trophy, which is the one that will be up for grabs at this World Cup.

Where will the trophy be heading?
Current World Cup holders Germany will be hoping that they are able to defend their title as World Cup Champions but their performances have not shown much evidence that this will happen. A shock loss to Mexico and a last minute goal to win against Sweden means that they are on 3 points with one group game to go. They will need to play much better if they are to beat South Korea this week and progress into the next round.
Belgium and England are both playing well but have not played any strong teams yet. You can never write off Brazil, Portugal, Spain or France, even if they are not firing on all cylinders just yet!
