Brazil

With a third of their qualifying campaign completed already. Brazil was in a concerning sixth place down in their group. This struggle turned into a victory parade the second Adenr Leonardo Bacci (Tite) replaced Carlos Caetano Bledorn Verri (Dunga) as the new coach for Brazil. They then went on to obtain 10 wins sealing their place for Russia with four rounds spare. This was following the appointment of the new coach Tite. The team’s temperament remains to be questioned, especially the legendary Neymar’s. He picked up a yellow card against Ecuador after his ruthless foul that suspended him for four games in September 2017.

Qualifying  Moments

Tite came in to replace Dunga as the coach for Brazil in June 2016 following the failure to get out of the group stage of the Copa Centenario. Gabriel Jesus pushed for a penalty that resulted in a 3-0 win against Ecuador for Tites first game in September 2016. After being one goal behind, Brazil showed their talent beating Uruguay 4-1 in March 2017.

ADENOR LEONARDO BACCI

Tite, aged 56 is an intelligent Brazilian football manager and former professional football player. He replaced Dunga as the new coach for Brazil in June 2016, who was fired following the poor results from the Copa America Centenario.

NEYMAR DA SILVA SANTOS

26-year-old Neymar plays as a forward for Paris-Saint-Germain in France and for Brazil’s national team. The most expensive player in history joined Real Madrid’s Youth Team at 14 years old during the time they had stars like Ronaldo and David Beckham. Neymar is a constant threat to the opposition. After being in a little bit of a slump last year he has become more like his old self with his astonishing improvisation skills. He missed the defeat to Germany following the incident of his broken toe, however, will be recovered and ready in time to shine in Russia.

GABRIEL JESUS

Gabriel is a 21-year-old Brazilian footballer who plays as a forward for Manchester City and Brazils National Team. Jesus instantly resolved the center-forward problem Brazil had when qualifying, scoring seven goals while only starting in half of the games.

Switzerland

Switzerland won their first nine qualifiers in 2016, however, they were in second place of their group because of their goal difference with Portugal. Vital players like Ricardo Rodriguez, Fabian Schar, Exherdan Shaqiri, Granit Xhaka and Harris Seferovic all now in their mid-twenties. This means that Switzerland should really be in peak form for Russia 2018.

Qualifying  Moments

Portugal was caught off guard without Ronaldo resulting in a 2-0 win for Switzerland in September 2016. They beat Northen Ireland 1-0 after a penalty was awarded following a handball by Corry Evens in November 2017. Switzerland drew with Northen Ireland in the second leg within the same month and year. This secured the place for the Swiss team in Russia for the World Cup.

VLADIMIR PETKOVIC

54-year-old Vladimir is a Bosnian-Herzegovinian football manager. He replaced Ottmar as the new coach for Switzerland following the World Cup in 2014 and led Switzerland to the last 16 at Euro 2016.

XHERDAN SHAQIRI

Shaqiri is a winger for Stoke city and the Swiss national team. He made his debut for the Swiss under-21’s in 2009 in a 3-1 win against Turkey. The 26-year-old’s career may not have lived up to the early expectations that were, however, with the ball at his left foot he is dangerous and likely to make something from nothing. Xherdan has been lone-wolfing the Premier League with possible intentions to move elsewhere. He has been frequently scoring perfectly decisive goals.

OTHER NEWS

Due to his extremely severe knee injury, Breel Embolo has missed the majority of their qualifying campaign. He injured his knee in October 2016 playing against Schalke in the Bundesliga. Switzerland has three new debuts with midfielders, Remo Frueler and Steven Zuber and with defender Manual Akanji. During the Champions League Manuel earned a move to Borussia due to impressing Basel that much.

 PREDICTED LINE-UP

SPORTS OF THE DAYS VERDICT

Switzerland impressed the world during the qualifiers only losing one game across the whole 12. Although we only really have to say one word and that is Neymar, we think that if he is recovered in time then Brazil has nothing to worry about.

Google’s win probability is at 70% for Brazil to beat Switzerland. The chances of Switzerland winning is at just 11% with a 19% chance of it being a draw.
