Workhorse Güven: “Don’t believe in talent so much anymore”

Joos newcomer Ayhancan Güven leaves nothing to chance on his debut in the ADAC GT Masters – simulator work to the hilt

Ayhancan Güven is set to make his debut in GT3 racing in 2022. The Turkish shooting star, who comes to the ADAC GT Masters with a lot of advance praise from the Porsche Cups, is currently preparing intensively with simulator work for his racing debut.

For the Turk, this is the key to success. So much so that he now doubts that success depends on talent. “In the beginning, I was often told that I was very talented and could adapt well. Now I don’t believe so much in the magic of the word ‘talent’,” he announces via Twitter.

For the 24-year-old, success now boils down to one thing: hard work. “Ever since I lost my faith in it [talent], I’ve had the irrepressible will to work. The only opponent is time,” he writes further.

Güven started keeping a record of his time in the simulator in 2022: “In January, I spent 61 hours actively in simulations. In the first ten days of February, I added another 26. It’s the first time I’ve kept a record of it, but I’ve been training like this for 20 years, more or less. “

Güven is also a professional sim racer and has participated in the virtual 24 Hours of Le Mans, among other events. However, his car was wrecked by a prototype in the Maison Blanche area during the night with a teammate at the wheel. In 2022, he will compete in the ADAC GT Masters together with Christian Engelhart for Team Joos Sportwagentechnik.

Güven adds that he hopes his comments do not come across as arrogant. Rather, he wants to encourage young compatriots to do the same: “I want my younger brothers and sisters to understand the importance of this.” Just how much the work has paid off will become clear in April, when the 2022 season kicks off in the German GT Championship.
