FC Barcelona have extended the expiring contract of top talent Pedri – with the highest exit clause in the club’s history.
Pedri was a tender 16 years young when FC Barcelona signed him from UD Las Palmas for €20 million in September 2019. And even though the Catalans have had a massive spending problem in recent years: Today, everyone considers that transfer fee to be completely justified.
Pedri, who will turn 19 in November, is supposed to become one of the faces of the “new” Barça, and he is already a top performer. Now he has also signed a corresponding contract. The midfielder, whose current contract would have expired at the end of the season, has extended his contract until 2026 and is making history.
The agreed exit clause amounts to one billion euros and is thus the highest in Barça’s club history. Even Lionel Messi’s most recently was “only” 700 million euros.
This season, however, Pedri has only made four competitive appearances due to muscular problems, one of which was in the Champions League against FC Bayern (kicker rating 4.5).
The young Spanish international played through the summer: After the European Championship, where he missed only one minute, he also played at the Olympic Games without missing a game (1:2 in the final against Brazil).
