In Football Manager 2024, some former top stars are available at the start of a career who bring immense quality. One small catch: these players are less suitable for attacking pressing.
José Campana – The creative six-man
Exactly ten years ago, José Campana played for 1. FC Nürnberg, scoring one goal and providing one assist in ten games. The Spaniard is currently without a club – you can end his search in FM24. Campana has very good values, especially in the mental category. With one exception: aggressiveness.
This is particularly annoying for advocates of forechecking, as he could have been a good fit in terms of speed with a few minor compromises. Otherwise, the defensive midfielder impresses with his strong technique, meaning he can both clear and provide creative moments.
Adrien Silva – The “brain” of a team
2016 he became European champion with Portugal alongside Cristiano Ronaldo. Seven years later, Adrien Silva is looking for a new club – the central midfielder was most recently under contract with Al-Wahda Abu Dhabi. In Football Manager 24, the French-born Portuguese has good to very good values in almost all attributes.
The 34-year-old only fails to impress in terms of speed. If this can be compensated for, Silva would be a player who could pull the strings in midfield with a well-considered build-up play.
Javier Pastore – The soccer artist
Javier Pastore’s speed, but also his work rate, aggression and above all his positioning (3) are also on the negative side. However, if you want a technically skilled player, the former Paris St. Germain midfielder is the right choice
Technique (19), passing (18), first touch (18), vision (18) and flair (18) are impressive. It is almost a shame, however, that the five-time French champion is not particularly courageous in the game.
Sergio Asenjo – The strong back-up
After Real Valladolid were relegated to the second Spanish division, the club underwent a radical change. Sergio Asenjo also suffered – the goalkeeper and club parted ways. In the game, the 34-year-old is a strong keeper who is also communicative. This is an underrated attribute among goalkeepers
David de Gea – world class at a low price
Two Europa League winners, one English champion – just a small selection from David de Gea’s trophy cabinet. The Spaniard left Manchester United in the summer and has been without a new club ever since. In Football Manager, the 33-year-old impresses with his reflexes (19) in one-on-one situations and his security.
Although de Gea is certainly quick in the game, he rarely comes out of goal. He would therefore not be suitable for the role of “playmaking goalkeeper”. He would also have to make concessions in his passing game. However, if it’s simply about his ability on the line, de Gea would be a great choice
