As expected, FC Barcelona have signed Franck Kessié (25). The Ivorian is to strengthen the Catalans’ midfield centre
According to the club, Kessié has signed for Barcelona until 2026, his contract contains an exit clause in the amount of 500 million Euros.
The Spanish club announced the signing of the midfielder on Monday, but the transfer had been in the pipeline for some time: According to reports, the medical check had already taken place in March. Now Kessié has officially signed for Barcelona – the Ivorian will not cost a transfer fee as his contract with Milan expired on 30 June.
An anticipation of the De-Jong sale?
The highly indebted Catalans thus manage a bargain. Since his move from Atalanta Bergamo to AC in 2017, Kessié has always been an undisputed regular in Milan, an absolute leading figure in midfield and, as a substitute captain, an integral part of the team that won the Scudetto last season.
With the title in his luggage, the Ivorian international is now leaving for Barcelona, where he will bring his strengths as a robust and powerful link-up player as well as a sure penalty taker to bear. The Catalans, meanwhile, are upgrading their central midfield, from which Frenkie de Jong could soon depart.
