Wish granted: Valencia and Levante get another bye

After the devastating natural disaster that hit the Spanish city of Valencia, more games were postponed.

On Tuesday, both Valencia CF and second division club UD Levante officially requested that the matches scheduled for this weekend against Espanyol Barcelona and Tenerife respectively be postponed. On Wednesday evening, both clubs announced that they had received official confirmation from the Spanish Football Association.

Both the La Liga match against RCD Espanyol, scheduled for Saturday at 6:30 p.m. and the second division match in Tenerife, scheduled for Sunday at 6:30 p.m., have been postponed. According to further information, the new dates for the two matches will be set shortly by mutual agreement between the clubs, the league and the Spanish Football Association.

The cup matches involving Valencia, at sixth-division side Parla Escuela, and their city rivals UD Levante, at fourth-tier Pontevedra CF, had already been canceled. In addition, the league matches between Valencia CF and Real Madrid and between Villarreal FC and Rayo Vallecano did not take place last weekend either.

“At this time, football is secondary and all efforts must be directed to helping those affected by the tragic consequences of the weather phenomenon, and to whom Valencia CF wishes to express its deepest condolences and support,” the club said in a statement.
