Investor Lars Windhorst has sharply criticised the club management at Hertha BSC – and now regrets his involvement.
“I was counting on rational and forward-thinking people being in charge at Hertha who also wanted sustainable success,” Windhorst told the business magazine “Capital”. In recent months, however, it has become clear to him that some people there are primarily concerned with “maintaining power and cronyism”.
Since 2019, Windhorst and his Tennor Group have invested a total of 375 million euros in the capital club, which is currently fighting relegation once again. Asked whether he considered his investment in Hertha a mistake, Windhorst replied: “Honestly, from today’s perspective, yes, unfortunately. So far, apart from positive experiences with many members, investing in Hertha has only brought me disadvantages. “
At the same time he said: “I won’t let anyone burn 375 million euros there and that’s why I will never give up.” He will “lead the investment to success, even if it will take much longer than originally planned”, said Windhorst.
