The BMW Williams team tested with Montoya and Pizzonia at Silverstone and with Ralf Schumacher at Monza on Wednesday
Significantly better weather conditions delighted the BMW Williams team on the second day of testing at Silverstone in the UK, where Juan-Pablo Montoya reeled off 90 laps on Wednesday to set a best time of 1:18.646. Test driver Antonio Pizzonia completed 47 laps and set a personal fastest lap of 1:19.291 minutes.
“Juan-Pablo took over testing duties from Marc today and joined Antonio for the second day of testing,” said Test Team Manager Tim Newton. “With the improved weather conditions, Juan-Pablo was able to continue with our tyre testing programme and also worked on the set-up of the car. Meanwhile, Antonio tested suspensions and did more system checks.” Montoya and Pizzonia will also be out and about at Silverstone on Thursday.
In parallel to the Silverstone test, the BMW Williams team had a second test crew on site at Monza. Ralf Schumacher completed 82 laps of the 5.793-kilometre circuit and set a best time of 1:21.492 minutes. The German tested different tyre compounds with a view to the race in Indianapolis. In addition, tests of brakes and aerodynamic parts were on the agenda with a view to the Monza race in September.
“Ralf was the only driver for the BMW Williams team on the second day of testing at Monza today and spent most of his time doing long runs,” said Newton. “He also tried out various race components for the upcoming Grands Prix.” Ralf Schumacher will continue testing at Monza on Thursday.
