Will Michelin return to the World Rally Championship? Application for tender expected

Michelin, among others, is expected to apply for the FIA’s tender to be the sole WRC tyre supplier from 2025 to 2027

A tender was launched by the Automobile World Federation (FIA) at the end of July to find a tyre supplier for the World Rally Championship (WRC) for the period 2025 to 2027. Since 2021, Pirelli has been the sole supplier to all teams. The current contract with the Italian tyre manufacturer expires at the end of 2024.

Michelin expects to submit a bid to become the next exclusive WRC tyre supplier. 2027, the last year in the tendered period, is expected to coincide with the debut of the new technical regulations.

Michelin has been the sole WRC tyre supplier in the past, from 2011 to 2020, and the French brand is expected to submit a bid by the deadline on Friday this week (15 September).

In addition to Michelin and the current sole supplier Pirelli, the Indian tyre manufacturer MRF is also expected to submit a bid for the period of the WRC seasons 2025 to 2027, according to information from Motorsport.com.

The future tyre supplier for the World Rally Championship is expected to be announced on 19 October at the meeting of the FIA World Motor Sport Council (WMSC).
