Will Josuha Guilavogui be fit in time for Wolfsburg’s Champions League appearance at Sevilla FC on Tuesday? The 31-year-old will make the trip to Andalusia in any case.
On Saturday after Wolfsburg’s 2-2 draw in Bielefeld, VfL coach Florian Kohfeldt was still unable to give a prognosis, and even the day after there is still no final clarity on whether Josuha Guilavogui will be able to play in the important match in Seville. At least the Frenchman, who is also really important again in sporting terms under the new coach, will be on the plane that takes the Lower Saxons to Andalusia on Monday.
Because: Guilavogui, who suffered calf problems in training on Friday, apparently does not have a structural injury. In Bielefeld, the 31-year-old, who was last used as the head of defence in the three-man backline, had to miss out, but the complaints eased over the weekend. This gives hope for a return to action in Sevilla.
Guilavogui was the unlucky one in the first leg. His clearing action in his own penalty area, which was completely within the rules, was deemed a foul by referee Georgi Kabakov. The result was a yellow card for Guilavogui and a penalty kick for Sevilla, which led to a 1-1 draw three minutes before the end. VfL travels to Spain with an open account – and at least with Guilavogui on the plane.
Renato Steffen will definitely be missing. After a blow to his calf, he is out for the match. Paulo Otavio’s decision will be made on Monday.
