Why GSP vs. Nate Diaz makes complete sense for UFC

GSP vs. Nate Diaz

On a cold night in Montreal five years back, Georges St Pierre defeated Nick Diaz in the midst of his long reign as a welterweight champion. To the likings of his raucous hometown crowd at the Bell Center, GSP smothered and smashed up the bad mannered Nick Diaz. After that, it’s bizarre to picture a GSP vs Diaz II, however, the UFC is allegedly in the process of making it happen. The twist is it would be GSP versus Nate Diaz, his younger brother, who has spent nearly all his career as a lightweight. Nate has often struggled against bigger, stronger opponents and hasn’t entered the Octagon in nearly two years. Alongside GSP who has higher morale from capturing the middleweight belt in November.

This fight would be a collision of two of the biggest stars in MMA. But would it be fair for both Fighters?

To address that concern UFC have said it would be at lightweight. At this weight, Nate Diaz has challenged for the title and St-Pierre has no experience competing. GSP resigned from being welterweight champ for five years, leaving the sport for four, then returned last fall to win the middleweight belt, which he’s since vacated.

The way everyone is talking about the proposed GSP vs. Diaz II fight, you would think the contracts have already been signed. However, if they have been surely the folks in charge of getting Pierre into shape would already be working toward that goal, as UFC 227 is just three months away.
