Ahead of the start of the season, Fermin Aldeguer has signed a MotoGP contract with Ducati. It is a two-year contract for the years 2025 and 2026. It is still unclear which team the Spaniard will ride for
It was originally the Ducati management’s idea to place him in the Pramac team. But everything has changed. Pramac has pulled the exit clause and is moving to Yamaha as a new satellite team.
Aldeguer would therefore have to be placed with either VR46 or Gresini. At VR46, the contract extension of Fabio Di Giannantonio is as good as fixed. Gresini has extended the contract with Alex Marquez.
Valentino Rossi’s team wants to save the career of Franco Morbidelli, who currently has no contract. A rider pairing of Di Giannantonio and Morbidelli at VR46 is considered very likely.
This would mean that Aldeguer would join Gresini. “I have a contract with Ducati. So any team with a Ducati is a possibility,” says the 19-year-old about his future. “At the beginning there was the possibility of Pramac.”
“But now it’s between Valentino and Gresini. I think it depends on the teams and what contracts they have. I could go here or there. I am happy with Ducati. I don’t have any preferences.”
After retirements in Barcelona and Mugello, Aldeguer got his Moto2 season back on track with a second place in Assen and a win at the Sachsenring. He went into the summer break in fourth place in the championship, 39 points behind the leaders
“It looks like I’ve closed a few mouths with this race,” said Aldeguer after his Sachsenring victory. Because some mistakes, such as long lap penalties due to track limits and the crash in Barcelona in the long lap, caused some criticism.
“But that doesn’t interest me. I’m fighting for myself. We drove a very clever race and once again showed our potential. I’m very happy with that. After the podium in Assen and the win in Germany, I’m very relaxed going into the summer break.”
“The motivation for the second half of the season is great. I’ve reduced the gap, it’s still 39 points. I’m not thinking about the world championship. But the goal is clearly to win the title. But I’m taking it race by race. Winning is the best way to reduce the gap. “
