WEC Monza 2022: Peugeot disappoints, Glickenhaus top, ladies pole in GTE Am!

Glickenhaus steals the show from Toyota and Peugeot: pole for the WEC round at Monza – Sarah Bovy takes pole in the Iron Lynx Ferrari in the GTE Am category

Glickenhaus beats the big hypercar works to the punch: Romain Dumas has taken pole for the WEC 6h race at Monza! In the Glickenhaus 708 (Pla/Dumas/Derani), the Frenchman was ahead in qualifying. No opponent was able to beat his time of 1:35.416 minutes.

On the contrary, Brendon Hartley in the second-placed 7 Toyota (Conway/Kobayashi/Lopez).

“Italy is our spiritual home. We have been working with Podium [Advanced Technologies] since 2010. They built this car, they manage our race team. That a small team can stand up and fight against giants like Toyota, Peugeot and Renault/Alpine, that’s really mind-blowing,” cheered James Glickenhaus.

Peugeot can’t get past P5

Things didn’t go to plan in qualifying for Peugeot’s hypercar newcomers. Gustavo Menezes put the 93 (di Resta/Jensen/Vergne) set no time at all.

Jensen stopped on the track with about 1:30 minutes to go, triggering a red phase – qualifying was over, the positions finally taken. In all free practice sessions Peugeot still had at least one car in the top 3.

In the LMP2 class, Filipe Albuquerque in the 41 (Andrade/Habsburg/Nato).

Ferrari with Monza pole in GTE Pro

Ferrari came out on top in the three factory battle in the GTE Pro category. Alessandro Pier Guidi, who was only at the wheel for the hypercar roll-out at Fiorano this week, took pole in the 51 (Pier Guidi/Calado) with a time of 1:45.270.

“It’s incredible to do this at home in front of our fans. It was very close between all the cars, but Ale did a super lap. It’s a good start. However, anything can happen in the race. It’s super hot, so we have to manage the temperatures tomorrow. But our race pace is very good,” said teammate James Calado.

The second Ferrari 92 (Christensen/Estre).

Democratic team at the front in the GTE Am

There was a bang for the buck in the GTE-Am class, where the Iron-Dames-Ferrari 77 (Ried/Priaulx/Tincknell) came in third.
