After the termination of his contract with Juventus Turin, Paul Pogba’s (32) doping ban has now expired. In winter, Olympique Marseille had the opportunity to sign the Frenchman on a free transfer.
In October of last year, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) drastically reduced the doping ban against Paul Pogba. Instead of having to wait until August 2027, the French midfielder finally had to wait “only” until the beginning of March 2025 before he could return to professional football – at least in theory.
The 2018 world champion has not yet found a new employer, although he could be signed on a free transfer due to the termination of his contract with Juventus Turin. Since then, rumors have been circulating again and again, with Olympique Marseille in particular being considered a potential buyer in the media.
“Some talks” between Marseille and Pogba
OM president Pablo Longoria has now explained in an interview with the Spanish radio station Cadena SER how serious things really became between the nine-time French champions and Pogba.
“We had the chance, there were some talks and we thought about this possibility,” the 39-year-old looked back on the winter transfer window. The current second-placed team in Ligue 1 ultimately decided against signing the 32-year-old because doubts arose as to whether ”his recovery time could disrupt the balance of the team.”
Longoria did not want to close the door on Pogba for good, however, adding: “With an eye to the future, he is of course an important player, and a name like his is always valuable in the market.”
