Way clear for Thiago Motta: Juve and Allegri reach out-of-court agreement

Juventus Turin and former coach Massimiliano Allegri have reached an out-of-court agreement to terminate their contract. This was announced by the Italian record champions on Monday evening

There was the threat of a mud fight. As of Monday evening, it is clear that there will be no such thing: Juventus Turin have said they have reached an “amicable” agreement with former coach Massimiliano Allegri to terminate his contract.

Following the Coppa Italia triumph – a 1-0 win over Europa League winners Atalanta Bergamo – Juventus parted company with their successful coach, who won a total of twelve titles with the Bianconeri during his two spells in charge. The 56-year-old’s personal outbursts were the decisive factor.

Following his emotional outburst at the Coppa final, Allegri was handed a two-match ban and a fine of €5,000. However, his contract in Turin would have run until June 30, 2025

14-million claim apparently rejected

According to Italian media reports, Allegri is therefore said to have insisted on a severance package. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Allegri’s party demanded 14 million euros, but Juventus are said to have rejected this sum. On Monday, it was surprisingly announced that the contract had been terminated by mutual agreement.

The proposed compensation payment – also for the “damage to the club’s image” – was apparently agreed internally. The out-of-court solution clears the way for Allegri’s successor in Turin: Thiago Motta, who sensationally led FC Bologna to fifth place in this Serie A season and thus into the Champions League, has deliberately decided against extending his contract.

In Italy, it is expected that Allegri’s contract termination will soon be followed by the presentation of Thiago Motta. The former CFC Genoa (27 Serie A appearances) and Inter Milan (72 competitive matches from 2009 to 2012) professional is set to receive a three-year contract until June 30, 2027.
