Franck Ribery (39) has just kept the class with US Salernitana in a curious way. And the winger hasn’t had enough yet despite his advanced footballing age, he wants to continue playing in Serie A.
23 games, but only eleven from the start, no goal, but one sending-off: Franck Ribery’s season in the port city of Salerno reads anything but good. The Frenchman probably sees it similarly – despite his advanced footballing age, he “wants to play next season too”, Salernitana’s sporting director Walter Sabatini told the daily newspaper “La Repubblica”.

He will also be allowed to do so, there is talk of an “automatic contract extension”. Ribery, who collected several titles during his long time as a Bayern professional, wants to prove himself as a saviour in the relegation battle at the end of his career. Not necessarily because of him, but nevertheless US Salernitana managed to stay in the relegation zone on the last matchday of the Serie A despite a 4-0 defeat against Udinese Calcio.
US Salernitana will be aiming for at least this position next season. Offensive man Ribery is planned for this, even at the age of 40 he could still play in Serie A.
That this works was recently proven by a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who even became champion with AC Milan – apparently without a cruciate ligament. Ribery, who played a total of 50 times for AC Florence between 2019 and 2021 (five goals), has not forgotten how to play football. The Frenchman will want to prove that to everyone.
