W Series calendar 2022: Eight races and debut in Asia

The W Series will stage eight races in 2022 as part of Formula 1: season opener in Miami, Suzuka first guest appearance of the series in Asia

The women’s racing series W Series unveiled its race calendar for the 2022 season on Thursday (27 January). As in the previous year, it includes eight events in the Formula 1 supporting programme and is more international than ever. Only four of the eight races will take place in Europe. In addition, the W Series will hold a race in Asia for the first time in its history in Suzuka.

The calendar has a highlight in store for the season opener, as the W Series will compete in the inaugural Miami Grand Prix from 6 to 8 May. The Barcelona race will be followed by a six-week break before three races take place in July at Silverstone, Le Castellet and Budapest.

After another break of over two months, the season then resumes at the beginning of October with the premiere in Suzuka. This is followed by a second USA race in Austin. At the end of the season, the W Series will race in Mexico City for the first time.

“I am delighted that we will be returning to the Circuit of the Americas, Silverstone and Hungary in 2022 and look forward to bringing the W Series to Miami, Spain, France, Mexico and Japan for the first time – the latter being another milestone for the W Series as we make our debut in Asia,” said Catherine Bond Muir, CEO of the racing series.

“We have always stated our intention to make the series a truly global movement and this calendar is the next step in that journey,” Bond Muir continued. “Our season finale at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez promises to be a very special weekend and I can’t wait to crown the 2022 W Series champion at the iconic Foro Sol Stadium. “
