Juventus Turin’s record remains unblemished after the fourth game of this calendar year. The “Old Lady” took revenge for the first leg defeat at Sassuolo on Tuesday evening thanks to Vlahovic’s brace
19 games, just one defeat – only on matchday 5, when Juventus lost 4-2 at Sassuolo, had they left the pitch as losers in the first half of the season. The Bianconeri were out for revenge on Tuesday evening – and that was evident on the pitch in the opening minutes.
Juve, who started in five different positions compared to the 4-0 win over Frosinone (Szczesny, Rugani, Cambiaso, Rabiot and Vlahovic replaced Perin, Gatti, Weah, McKennie and Milik), took control immediately and barely allowed Sassoulo to get out of their own half.
Only Laurienté tests Szczesny in the first half
However, Consigli did not have to intervene at first, but his first test went wrong straight away: a relatively central Vlahovic flick was let through by the goalkeeper, who was standing a little too far in front of his goal (15th).
The goal obviously woke up the Neroverdi. After that, the visitors got into the game better. However, the only result of the improvement was a shot from distance by Laurienté (33′).
In the middle of this phase, Vlahovic showed his fine feet once again at the other end: The Serbian curled a free-kick from a half-right position superbly under the crossbar to make it 2:0 at half-time (37′).
With the two-goal lead behind them, the home side concentrated on their defensive work after the restart. Sassuolo tried a lot, but the second-best defense in the league (twelve goals conceded) was a tough task
Chiesa scores the final goal
The visitors’ best chance came from a counter-attack following a Juve corner. Szczesny saved Berardi’s deflected shot at the end of this counter-attack with a strong reflex save (64′).
The game then fizzled towards its conclusion with almost no further highlights. Only Juve made two more appearances in the opposition penalty area. After Joker Weah missed from six meters (76′), Chiesa made it 3:0 shortly before the end (89′).
