AS Roma have been very active on the transfer market this summer and recently signed Mats Hummels. However, the Giallorossi are not financially secure and have now been fined a hefty sum for breaching Financial Fair Play (FFP)
The UEFA Financial Control Body (CFCB) is fining AS Roma for failing to meet set financial targets for the 2023 financial year. The chamber, which is responsible for monitoring compliance with UEFA regulations on the financial situation of soccer clubs, announced on Friday that the Giallorossi will have to pay two million euros.
The Italians are clearly not too worried about this, as they made some big moves on the transfer market in the summer. In addition to the transfer-free signings of Hummels and Mario Hermoso, coach Daniele De Rossi also acquired well-known and expensive reinforcements such as striker Artem Dovbyk, right winger Matias Soulé and Manu Koné from Gladbach. Alexis Saelemaekers (AC Milan) would be another prominent new signing, while Angelino has been signed permanently from RB Leipzig
No penalties for PSG and Milan clubs
In addition to Roma, Aston Villa from England (€60,000) and Olympique Marseille from France (€20,000) were also penalized, but no club was hit as hard as Roma, which was under particular scrutiny by the FKKK for failing to meet certain financial targets last season. Basaksehir from Istanbul must pay 100,000 euros, and the Turks are also threatened with exclusion from the European Cup for a year in the event of further offenses.
Other clubs such as Paris St. Germain or Rome’s league rivals AC and Inter Milan as well as Besiktas, Trabzonspor and Royal Antwerp got off scot-free because they met their interim targets
